As of today, I am no longer in my mid-20s.

I’m in my late 20s.

I’m almost 30.

Twenty-seven used to be my “scary” age. The age when I was starting to get old. I don’t have words of wisdom.

I should HAVE some words of wisdom by now.

Aw, hell.

happy birthday

2. Michael - December 18, 2006

Happy birthday, and welcome to the club. I joined two months ago. How about this .. if you don’t call me almost 30, I won’t call you almost 30 … deal?

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your writings, by the way. Please keep them coming.

3. NML - December 19, 2006

Happy birthday! xxx

4. Criss - December 19, 2006

You can still claim mid-20’s at 27. You’re not “almost 30″ until you’re 29, and looking at a birthday merely six months away…

*sigh*

But, you know what? Looking around, it’s not that bad. (Then again, ask me again in six months… :P )

5. londongirl - December 19, 2006

Happy Birthday!

I found that the nearly thirty thing was much more scary than actually the day itself. I’d done so much obsessing about what I thought I’d have achieved and so on by the time I turned thirty, that on the day itself I realised I was ok with it, had a great party.

Don’t worry about lack of wisdom. I seem to stumble through ok without any.

I’m not ok with getting spots AND wrinkles, however, but that’s another story…

6. Deezee - December 19, 2006

27 was a great year for me. Lots of adventure - enough experience behind me to know what I was doing and enough adventure in my soul to push me out on a limb or two. I met the guy I eventually married, which lead to even more crazy adventures and my amazing son (we won’t talk about the divorce.)

So, I’m predicting a phenomenal year for you. In my mind, 27 is the one year I’d do again - it was that much fun.

Happy Birthday.

7. Scarlett - December 19, 2006

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

Don’t worry about wisdom, I have none, and I do ok .. well most of the time.

10. Vedova Donna - December 19, 2006

Well Happy Birthday you young whippersnapper! I just celebrated my 40th last week, feel better?

12. Sandra Dee - December 19, 2006

Shit, you’re not old until you’re 35.

13. Lissa - December 19, 2006

I hope you have a fabulous birthday filled with men buying you drinks and you getting a kick ass pair of shoes.

14. Anonymous - December 19, 2006

I have to agree with DeeZee. 27 was my best year ever. I moved away to Chicago, got out of a bad relationship, became more confidant, met an amazing guy, and got a kick ass job. So cheers to 27!!

15. Dan - December 19, 2006

That seems pretty wise…

16. Gabrielle - December 19, 2006

17. Texas Cinderella - December 19, 2006

Happy Happy Birthday Charming!!!!! 27 isn’t all that bad!

18. erica - December 19, 2006

Happy Birthday, Charming!
Don’t worry about what you “should” have, just concentrate on what you DO have. (Easy to say, I know.)
Hope you have a great 27th year!

19. jeremy - December 19, 2006

As a fellow Sag, I say Happy birthday. The 20’s are the biggest transition decade in terms of the adult world - one where you start off as one of “us”, have the last milestone birthday that you really look forward to and come out the other side as one of “them”. Wishing you a fun day and year ahead, and more importantly, all that you wish for yourself.

20. Eve - December 19, 2006

Happy Birthday! Don’t worry about the getting older thing. I’m 29 and I can honestly say that each year gets better as I become more and more comfortable with myself. I imagine it will be the same for you. Anyways, happy birthday!

21. Rae - December 19, 2006

Happy Birthday. I turn 28 on Christmas Day. I have no idea how I got to be 28, I’m pretty sure I was just 25. The only words of wisdom I have are moisturize and floss daily. Those are the two things my Grandmother always told me.

22. JMSA - December 19, 2006

Happy Birthday! I just joined the late/mid twenties (27) in September. Enjoy your day, it’s yours and no one can take it from you. Pary like a rock star, because I’m noticing the older I get the more I can’t party like that. lol. Again Happy Birthday.

23. Pandax - December 19, 2006

You’ve got the world on a string when you’re in your 20s. I actually felt like 31 and 32 were my best years. I will say that while I’ve got my health, a good job, and a roof over my head, being almost 36 and single is a different ball game. You have many, many wonderful years ahead of you

Enjoy, explore, and go for what you want. Live your life. Anything is possible!

24. Anonymous - December 19, 2006

All my friends who are 30 say life is better on that side of the fence. Happy Birthday!

25. Sniper - December 19, 2006

Happy Birthday !!! Life gets a lot better after 30, but keep whipping it up while you’re in your 20s.

26. felicity - December 19, 2006

Happy Birthday! I haven’t found 27 to be bad at all.

27. Miss Browneyedgirlie - December 19, 2006

Happy Birthday!

I’d have to agree - so far, 27 has been my best year (of my 20s, at least).

I, too, got out of a bad relationship, started doing more to celebrate my independence, and am working in a field that I love more and more each and every day.

And I don’t feel the slightest bit old - although that could be because I’m surrounded by 6,7, and 8-year-olds who make me feel like a kid again…

28. Cute Jewess - December 19, 2006

Happy birthday!! My (unasked for!) advice is to enjoy still being young. Because when the scarier years start coming, you’ll look back and think how young you were.

So, basically, you’re still young!

29. Anonymous - December 20, 2006

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! You’re an amazing writer- so keep that coming! I turn 27 in a few months and I understand the feeling only too well- for some reason, 26 was okayish, but 27 was always stuck in my brain as “the” age when age sets in. . .good luck!

Happy Birthday!

-Mark Twain

Age does not diminish the extreme disappointment of having a scoop of ice cream fall from the cone.

When marrying, ask yourself this question:
Do you believe that you will be able to converse well with this person into your old age?
Everything else in marriage is transitory.
-Friedrich Nietzsche

The aging process has you firmly in its grasp if you never get the urge to throw a snowball.

-Samuel Ullman

In youth the days are short and the years are long. In old age the years are short and day’s long.
-Pope Paul VI

37. kat - December 22, 2006

Happy Birthday you saucy chick!

38. Blind Mind - December 28, 2006

27 is nothing. I just had my 29th a few weeks ago and I could care less. I feel like I just got out of college every day. I refuse to be considered an “adult”, mainly cuz I dont like labels and partially cuz I still look like Im 18 and people comment on that all of the time. Im a toys-r-us kid I guess…

In the words of Neil Young, “Its not how you look, but how you feel!”

Happy B-day!

39. Virginia Belle - January 10, 2007

ugh, humiliatingly late again, i’m afraid.

happy birthday to one of my favorite bloggers!!

i’m almost but not quite a year older than you (i’ll be 28 in february). at age 27, I…

* got a dog
* bought a house
* fell in love (again)
* learned a LOT about money, medicine, priorities, family, traveling, friends, etc. Life in general, really. I’m smarter now than I was last year.

so it’s been a good year. it hasn’t all been roses, but it’s definitely been a landmark year.

and that’s a good thing. age 27 is the year to make your mark on the world, girl. hop to it!

when you get depressed about your age, just remember what i read somewhere: statistics show that as you get older, you also get richer. woo-hoo!!! that thought always perks me up. i think i’ve also read somewhere that women are happiest in their 30s…but don’t quote me on that.

age 35 is when i start on my “Life Plan B”. until then, i will continue to assume i will one day get married and have babies. (Although, my ever-supportive, married coworkers remind me all the time that you can have babies well into your forties.)

so see? it’s all good. we have like 20 more years to meet mr. right. whew!
