To do: Be a girl January 17, 2007

Because I anticipate that Man Detox 2007 (three days strong!) will certainly be a smashing success this upcoming weekend, my head has been swimming with fantastically relaxing ways in which I plan to rid myself of the crankiness that’s resulted from months of settling for so-so interactions with the male of the species.

My ever-growing list of activities involves a typical regimen of hair, skin and nail care. I have this fantastic new exfoliating scrub that I want to use on my feet. I might touch up the color of my hair. I need a manicure.

I also plan to aimlessly wander the aisles of a bookstore selecting some things to read – perhaps Straight Up and Dirty by Stephanie Klein next? (So far this year I’ve read BreakUp Babe, which is a great book by a blogger I love that you should really go read, especially if you enjoy reading this “genre” of blogs, as she tells her story with a combination of blog posts and narrative, and The Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing, which was okay, but not quite what I expected it to be.)

Also, trips to gym (2 planned) with newly created “Girl Power” workout playlist. Healthy food, tea instead of coffee at my Sunday power writing session, salad bar from Fantastic Fancy Grocery Store and one glass of wine on Friday night.

Possibly shopping because I need more BADgal Lash. (I’d strayed from this mascara with a Clinique product, but my lashes are begging for me to go back to Benefit.) Also, I might break down and buy the Lauren by Hobo International because I’ve been obsessed with it for too long now.

Also, football. Because, HELLO. One game until the Super Bowl. Go Saints!

Cheesy and predictable? Of course. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m a little nervous that this has been what my weekends are like (plus a little work, friends, and minus the football) for the last 6 months or so. I guess I’ve been on a Man-fast without knowing it! Have a fantastic weekend!

There is no mascara on Earth like BadGirlLash or whatever that miraculous stuff Benefit makes.

A man detox isn’t a bad idea…this could catch on!

We are one game from a BLACK AND GOLD SUPERBOWL!
Enjoy your weekend!

You know, I really loved The Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing. Have you read Hissy Fit by Mary Kay Andrews? It’s a good one. Enjoy your weekend - sounds like you have a lovely, indulgent time planned!

That hand bag is to die for!! I love the celedon.
Your weekend sounds perfect!

“Girl Power” playlist? Oh do tell! I’d love to hear what’s on that! Hope you don’t mind if I copy!

Primping and preening definitely my favorite activities. My last man detox didn’t consist of any gym activity and I ended up gaining about 10 pounds… Maybe it’s because I took up cake decorating… That coulda been it! ;-)

Care to share the girl power playlist?

Oh, my absolute rule is that if I’ve wanted something continuously for weeks (up to 3 months), then it MUST be bought. I hope you splurge on your Lauren!

If you have already red “Good in Bed” by Jennifer Weiner, I highly recommend it!

I love “Girl Power” weekends. I do all that stuff too - cept I spend WAY more when I go to the mall and I go to the mall OFTEN.

I persuse the aisles at the bookstore for hours. I finally caved in and bought “He’s just not that into you” and I am really enjoying it. Very comical!

The Super Bowl! I completely forgot about this great upcoming event. How about having a Super Bowl party! What a super way to begin Man Detox 2007 — invite a bunch of close friends over for some man watching and finger foods!!

Ha Ha how funny. Men tend to drain us out of our girly energy. My hats off to you for starting the detox program. I think i may need to do that as well

I looked at the badgal lash price and dismissed it, but after tiff’s comment I’m curious as to why it’s so special. Care to enlighten (and possibly convert) me? Mascara tends to get on my face, so if I could avoid that and still wear mascara I’m in.

Sounds like a fabulous weekend. I love just hanging out and doing nothing special. My friends rarely let that happen though.

It seems the best recipe for a detox of any kind calls for a handle of good, triple distilled vodka, and a two or three lemons.

16. HT - January 18, 2007

A quick read that’ll make any woman glad she’s taking a man break is Single Mom Seeking by Rachel Sarah - BUT it’s got a few graphic/explicit sex scenes. Something Blue is a quick, fun read too.

The Accidental Bitch -

Badgal lash mascara doesn’t clump, or run, it’s got the perfect brush, it makes them look really thick… my eyelashes are notoriously short, but that stuff makes me look like I have real lashes!

I was scared about the price at first too, but I kept spending $8 here or $6 there on mascara I didn’t absolutely love, so I finally sprung for it.

Not to turn this into a beauty blog - sorry Charming!

You know, I’ve recently discovered the new plastic-wand mascaras (by Cover Girl and Max Factor) and they are FABULOUS! Cover Girl has their Lash Exact (I believe they were the first ones with this new technology) along with a new Volume Exact mascara, which I just bought and am delighted with. They’re cheap, but still give me mile-long lashes with NO clumping. Just a suggestion. =)

PS- I’ve read 3 books by Cecelia Ahern lately and am LOVING them all. Her books often involve a love interest, but it’s only a side story in the main novel– the heroine doesn’t need the man to be “happy” or “complete”, she finds that on her own. And besides those points, I love her writing style.
