Relaxation and Man Detox mission semi accomplished this weekend.

To wit:

The Done:

  • Lazy dinner with wine Friday evening
  • Colored over old blonde highlights and crazy roots; am officially all brunette again
  • Nails, French manicured
  • Benefit Mascara purchased
  • Take out sushi consumed while watching Grey’s Anatomy Saturday night
  • Wine, enjoyed with Southern Belle at fancy downtown wine bar Saturday night

The Undone:

  • Lauren Clutch unpurchased (A pox on you for running out, Dillard’s!)
  • New book unselected (and therefore unread)
  • Gym and Farmer’s Market unvisited
  • Chicago Bears unbeaten

And the most important stat of all:

  • Zero former man flames texted, IMed or called

Now THAT is real progress.

I have never tried Benefit Cosmetics. What makes them work for you? I just have always used Estee Lauder or Lancome most of my adult life and never really explored. Curious about your experience.

Congratulations on the successful port over to WordPress.

2. Woman with Kids - January 22, 2007

I’m impressed you made it until Saturday night to watch Gray’s. I have no patience whatsoever.

Congrats on not contacting the Men.

3. minijonb - January 22, 2007

You finsihed more than half of your items on the to-do list… whenever I bat more than .500 I consider it to be a success. You have every right to be proud of your (more than) semi-accomplishment.

4. Carmen - January 22, 2007

Very productive weekend!!!!!!!

5. e. - January 22, 2007

Wine and sushi is always a productive weekend!

I picked up The Memory Keepers Daughter over the weekend and started reading it. It’s prettily written, easy to read, and rather girly, if that’s up your alley.

Congrats on the move! I’ll go update my blogroll now.

As to books, I still stand by my recommendation of Pick Me Up because it made me laugh out loud, and the ending was soooo satisfying.

But right now I’m reading what’s supposed to be the most important graphic novel ever, Watchmen. It was recommended to me by someone who reads a book a week, and it’s one of Time’s 100 best books.

7. Lola - January 22, 2007

Damn! that reminds me. Must get hair done…

Love the new/old look! Well done for surviving the move. :)

Love the new site. I truly believe the zero-former-flames contacted is the most significant progress of all- I’m actually jealous! Well done!

9. BC - January 22, 2007

What kind of book are you looking for, or what do you like to read? I may have a suggestion for you!

Grey’s made me cry this week. I love George.

10. Marcy - January 22, 2007

I love the Benefit line. Everything is just so… adorable. ; )

11. Vixen - January 22, 2007

Good work on the man detox. My fiance’s sons were here for the weekend and I would’ve given anything for a weekend like yours!

Deannie — I actually only use their BadGal Lash Mascara. Everything else I use is Clinique. My momma taught me early on that it was worth it to pay a little more for the good stuff, so I use Clinique moisturizer, base and powder. Sometimes I mix it up and get cheaper eyeshadow from the drug store. Most of the time I splurge for the good stuff.

However, if Benefit ever stops making Bad Gal lash? I will lead the riot. Because I have pretty normal eyelashes — nothing too long or dark. The Benefit mascara really makes them look longer. The formula is thick enough without being too (for lack of a bette word) goopey. And the brush is fantastic. Worth every one of those $19.

Woman with kids — I was watching Grey’s DVDs. I watched the real deal on Thursday night. And boy did I cry. I haven’t cried that much since the episode where the pole went through the two people. And then they moved the young girl off of the pole so they could save the man? And McDreamy told her fiance, “She wanted you to know that if love were enough …” And then McDreamy cries in the elevator and Bailey just stops it and lets him go? OH. MY. GOD. I BAWLED. (I have cried a lot to this show, but the train episode? Was the worse. I cried even more than when Denny died.)

14. jo - January 23, 2007

sounds like a really good chill-out man detox time.

15. Harleyblue - January 23, 2007

Your man detox sounds wonderful. And congratulations on the new page. I think I cried the hardest when Denny died and they had to pick Izzie up off the bed. I just lost it.

16. t. - January 23, 2007

OMG. I bawled so hard at Grey’s on Thursday night. Like sobbing and sniffling and gulping my wine. (Somehow these go hand in hand.)

I heart that show. Charming, ever tried Lash Fusion mascara? I was a benefit lover myself and am now totally converted.

Just saying.

17. Ruvym - January 23, 2007

You know that guys do these detox missions to, in an effort to try to stop obsessing about women. And you know what? It never works. Why can’t we just embrace the obsessions and move on? It’s so much more fun when you don’t go extreme in an effort to try to cut out men/women from your life. Extremism in one direction is just bound to lead to extremism in the other direction, once you get bored, which will be very soon.

18. Maverick - January 23, 2007

Charming,
Sorry your Saints didn’t win and My Chicago Bears are going to the Super Bowl! Really I had some nervous few hours before and during that game. I wish the Saints all the luck for next season (until they play the Bears again) Can you see yourself cheering on my team in the big game? Good luck in your detox.

19. CoatMan - January 24, 2007

Hmm, you left out watching romantic films which, I always find, helps to put things in perspective.

And welcome to your new home :-)

20. jo - January 24, 2007

there’s something bout grey’s anatomy that ALWAYS makes me cry. yeah the joined-by-a-pole episode was really sad. it was also really sad when denny died. i must be a real sap whenever i watch it or something. heck i even cry sometimes at scrubs haha!

21. that girl - January 25, 2007

ACK! I work so much that I haven’t had time to see any of the Grey’s from this season…

I guess I’m going to be the one who has to purchase the DVD.

Go figure.

“And the most important stat of all: * Zero former man flames texted, IMed or called”

Wow, thats some impressive work… I hate to say it but I often find myself with a text message hangover the next day, and fear checking the outbox… haha

23. Michelle - January 25, 2007

I linked to your blog through another & 2.5 hours later, I’m still sitting reading your posts. Love it!! Will be back again and again!

24. Babelfish - January 25, 2007

Man Detox – I love it. It reminds me of a friend in college who became a Born Again Virgin. That just tickled my fancy.

25. mickredsun - January 26, 2007

Whit? Does it really come to this? That I randomly choose a new blog to read and I come accross this misandrist blurb.

Sexist! Misandrist! Pathetic!

Ooo… look at me… I hate men!

Do you truly think this is acceptable in modern society!

Get a grip!

26. t. - January 26, 2007

Shut up, Mickredsun. You are drivel. Charming = fab.

27. charming, but single - January 26, 2007

Seriously. Read the blog before you comment calling me a man-hater, ok? Read. The. Blog.

The last three men I’ve had interactions with? Sucked. They didn’t call when they said they were going to call, they got other women pregnant suspiciously close to when they were dating me, they wouldn’t leave my house when I asked them to leave, etc etc etc. And so, yeah, I have been on a bit of a dating hiatus, which I have been jokingly calling “Man Detox 2007.”

That doesn’t mean I think all men suck. Or that I hate men. Or that I’m never going to date again. Quite the opposite. I LOVE men. They’re fantastic. But I’m going through a rough patch and rather than continue to carry on with these particular men, I’m taking a wee break to relax and take time for myself to determine what causes me to even tolerate bad behavior by certain men. Because, hello, I happen to adore men in general and I’d really like to love one specifically. And as long as I’m wasting time with the ones who are bad for me, who hurt me, who make me feel bad about myself, I’m not spending time with the great men who are truly as testament to how kind, caring and supportive males can be.

So don’t go getting all worked up and questioning how this could possibly be acceptable in modern society. “Man Detox?” Totally a joke. Because “Detox From Three Specific Men Who Are Causing Me Stress (Not To Be Confused With Detox From All Men, Nor To Insinuate Hatred Of All Males) 2007” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

It’s a blog people. Don’t get all up in arms. I don’t want to have to start “Commenter Detox 2007.”

28. deannie - January 26, 2007

I love your spunk (as in response to latest hater comment). Hey, thanks for the info on Bad Lash. Have a good weekend.

29. Jody - January 27, 2007

Screw the haters, Charming, you have many, many fans who actually READ your blog. Eagerly awaiting the next post!

I cannot believe they held that sale inside. What a tale of horror! I would have left too.

I did a good amount of shopping yesterday too and I got some nice deals! This is definitely the right time to go shopping.
