Favorite love song - “Just The Way You Are,” Billy Joel
Favorite “dying alone” song - “Alone In The Universe” from the Seussical soundtrack.

Yeah, yeah. Bite me.

2. VJ - February 21, 2007

I really like your blogroll C. It’s useful & comprehensive. My fav love songs are many & varied. I think most of them are quite old. Many of course do not have words. Only some are Sousa marches. I’ve got a bunch of fav ‘dying’ songs too, but they’re mostly bluegrass classics. Of course Frankie & Johnnie might do for both loving & dying. But that’s the Blues. Cheers & Good Luck, ‘VJ’

In fact I’ll feel a whole lot better
But you’ll think of me”

Fav Love Song: Christina Aguilera; Save me From Myself
Fav Hate Love Song: Destiny’s Child: Through With Love

Actually, since the topic is songs and commenting… I found your blog (and have been reading it faithfully ever since) when I was looking for people who had written about one of my favourite songs ever, Be My Downfall by Del Amitri. :)

15. Bella - February 22, 2007

As I said in yesterday’s comment, I am now officially addicted to your blog. But in a good way, not in a needing-a-12-step-program way. :)

blog address: http://bellasboldbrilliantblog.wordpress.com

Fave love song: “Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson
I want someone to convince me to stay in so they can cook me breakfast.

Fave lust song: “Straight to Number One” by Touch and Go
Because it’s so sexy.

Fave hate love song: “You Oughta Know” Alanis Morrisette,
Does it really need any explanation?

16. ScribeLA - February 22, 2007

Hey CBS,

Love your blog.

http://www.scribela.blogspot.com - Borderline Inappropriate

Fave love song and favorite dying alone song?

Too tough to pick just one for each, but I love David Gray’s music - he’s got some great in love songs (ie. “this year’s love” ;) and totally alone songs (”say hello, wave goodbye”). Dave Matthews’ “I’ll back you up” is also very beautiful.

17. Lady Latte - February 22, 2007

Oooh, I’m gonna take some song recommendations from this! How fun!

My blog is http://blackingfriction.blogspot.com/ . It’s relatively new but it’s a catharsis for sure. I’d love the add.

Eeek, I have trouble picking songs. I love music and have trouble choosing favorites.

Favorite Love Songs: “Brand New Colony” - The Postal Service (the perfect song for new love) and “Rock Upon a Porch With You” - The Boy Least Likely To (for a silly love song).

Favorite “To Hell With It I’m Dying Alone” Songs: “Your Ex-Lover is Dead” - Stars and “Don’t Let’s Start” - They Might Be Giants

Plus my favorite tongue-in-cheek bitter-about-love songs: “Waking Up to Us” and “If You Find Yourself Caught in Love” by Belle & Sebastian.

18. myotherhalf - February 22, 2007

Your blog is one of my guilty little pleasures. My blog is mostly me rambling. http://themockingbirdsings.wordpress.com

Picking favorite songs is hard for me. I like a lot of stuff, and I change my mind with the wind where music is concerned, but in the interest of playing along…

Fave love song: When You Say Nothing At All, the Allison Crouse version is my fave

Fave love song from a musical: Joanna from Sweeney Todd

Fave through with love song: Call Me When You’re Sober, Evanescence

Fave through with love song from a musical: Fine, Fine, Line from Avenue Q

19. Rahul - February 22, 2007

Fav “Love Song” :
‘Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You’ - George Benson/ Glenn Medeiros.

Fav ” To Hell With It I’m Dying Alone ” Songs :

1)Dead Flowers - by Stones
{And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the mail
Send me dead flowers at my wedding
And I won’t forget to put roses on your grave}

2)”Love Stinks”- J. Geils Band.

20. Josh - February 22, 2007

I enjoy reading about your trials and tribulations of dating, which is sort of a weird compliment. I mean, we, as readers, get to “enjoy” your sometimes negative/painful experiences, but can also empathyze, as you go through life searching for love.

Fave love song: I could go on and on with this one, David Gray has numerous ones, Ryan Adams has some sexy songs, but I think the one that gets me every time is “Home” by Duncan Sheik.

Then I’m with you,
No longer alone.
When I’m with you,
It feels like I’m home.

Fave “to hell with love, I’m dying alone” song: “Untouchable Face” by Ani DiFranco.

so f**k you
and your untouchable face
and f**k you
for existing in the first place
and who am i
that i should be vying for your touch
and who am i
i bet you can’t even tell me that much

Honorable mention to “You’ll Think of Me”, by Keith Urban, as Stepping Over the Junk noted.

21. VJ - February 22, 2007

Some songs: The non lyrics kind:

“Fleurette Africaine”, D. Ellington, Money Jungle.

“A Single Petal of a Rose”. Ellington, The Queen Suite.
(For momma)

The big love:

“A Love Supreme” John Coltrane Quartet.

The sly disappointment: (with lyrics!)

Jimmy Rushing singing “Boogie Woogie” or “Sent for You Yesterday” or “Little Girl from TN”

Cheers, ‘VJ’

22. copasetic fish - February 22, 2007

My personal blog is http://deannietime.blogspot.com (Home is where the heart is). I am on the other side of having found the one for life and having things blow up; I am newly separated.

I have lots of favorite love songs: Non-lyrical “Kei’s song” David Benoit; Lyrical “My kind of lady” Supertramp are two that stand out right off the top.

Sad love song: “The end of a love affair” Billie Holiday.

Hey, this was fun. Going to go dig for some fun stuff to listen to today.

26. PocketCT - February 22, 2007

Charming, I stumbled on your gem of a site recently. Thanks for writing such entertaining morsels.
Love song Il volo by Zucchero. My Italian is not so good, I may be way off on its love song merits, but it just sounds like love. Then again, if you say “I’m cooking a delicious cake for you” in Italian it sounds like love to me.
I am way more confident of the other request. Here are the first three songs from my perfect love sucks mix “cynical pin”
Passive, A Perfect Circle, I will survive, covered by Cake, Fourteen Days, Laura Love.
I’ll send you the whole thing if you need it Charming, it is the perfect musical accompaniment to the cussing/feet stomping frustration of love being so hard.

27. K. Lianne - February 22, 2007

Hey C,
love the blog, and would love to be added to the blogroll.

And if your comments aren’t showing up, don’t fret. I think some of them are getting flagged as Spam by Akismet because they include your URL. I will have to moderate them tonight.

Dan — Not trying to make anyone work … just thought I’d give people something to talk about in the comments other than “please link to my blog.” I happen to think that this was quite fun and I have a whole list of songs to download from iTunes now!

both songs, when they randomly come up in the shuffle, stop me in my tracks, and get me listening - really listening - to the stories they tell. ’cause I know ‘em, by heart.

73. Nora - February 22, 2007

Hey, I read the site all the time and absolutely love it!

Fav love song:

Whole Wide World - Wreckless Eric (from Stranger than Fiction soundtrack)

Fav done with love, pick-me-up song:

Chewing Gum - Annie

“Hey Annie, well, look at you!
Is that a new boy stuck on your shoe?
Come on Annie, how is it so?
You’ve always got a new bubble to blow

I’m gonna tell you how it’s gonna get done
I’m just a girl that’s only chewing for fun
You spit it out when all the flavour has gone
Wrap him round your finger like you’re playing with gum”

That song is totally ridiculous and totally infectious. I play that along with “Since You’ve Been Gone” and have a guaranteed smile on my face.

74. JustJenny - February 22, 2007

I’d love to be added - your writing is lovely!

http://bluntforcetraumacausedbycomma.blogspot.com/

Love song: Ben Folds, “The Luckiest.”

And done-with-love song: at the moment it’s “Through With People” by Portastic.

75. theseniorsenior - February 22, 2007

I’m glad I stumbled upon this little corner of the web universe. I am http://theseniorsenior.wordpress.com/

As for the songs, and interesting dilemna, as I am freshly kicked to the curb. The iPod is filled with treacherous pitfalls that may start crying jags on the bus (to be avoided at all costs). However, my heart will always belong to “More Than This,” by Roxy Music (love song). And for my present mood, nothing beats “Kiss Off,” by the Violent Femmes. Gordon Gano’s whining just feels right right now.

76. lissa - February 22, 2007

I love your blog.

Everything I say is Fascinating http://www.misplacedtexan.typepad.com

My favorite love songs (because I really can’t have just one)
Fade Into You by Mazzy Star (hands down a classic)
Back To You by John Mayer
Under the Peach Trees by Rufus Wainwright

My favorite dying alone song - Addicted by Kelly Clarkson

And just for kicks my fave pump me up song I can take on the world and no one is going to stop me is
Here I Am by David Morales with Tamra Keenan (from the devil wears prada soundtrack)

77. Exposed - February 22, 2007

Great idea, but I’ve never been good at choosing just one (or two) of anything…

Classic Love Song: At Last (love Christina Aguilera’s cover)

Recent Love Song: Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol

Love Was Never Meant to Last Song: Blackout- Muse

Wish I Had You Back Song: “A” Song- 28N

Depressed and Drinking Song: Neon Moon- Brooks & Dunn

Pick-Me-Ups: I Will Be- Christina Aguilera
Don’t Give Up- Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush
What A Wonderful World- Eva Cassidy or Louis Armstrong

I would love to be blogrolled!: http://www.metadish.com/exposed

78. ScribeLA - February 22, 2007

And… “I’ll be your lover, too” - Van Morrison. One of the best in-love songs ever.
Scribe

79. The Accidental Bitch - February 23, 2007

Hey Charming, you have me linked as My Boyfriend is Crazy and I changed my blog in December to The Accidental Bitch. You can leave up the old one if you want, but I’d appreciate the update to my new one!

I really like Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” but I blame Grey’s for that. And my feel-good “Fuck you” song is Kaiser Chiefs’ “Everyday I Love You Less and Less”

80. pagdaloy - February 23, 2007

Hi Charming, I really love your blog!
My blog’s address is http://acylicious.wordpress.com/

My favorite, wish someone will sing this for me song is: The Way You Look Tonight, Michael Buble’s version and my “I don’t care about being alone” song is: It’s Raining Men by Geri Halliwell, at least, this is what I try to sing when being alone seems so… you know, difficult.

It would be great to be on your blogroll. I added you to mine, hope you don’t mind.

Thanks! — Nancy

81. Meg - February 23, 2007

I don’t care if you add me to the blogroll or not, but my song picks:

Favorite song for a relationship that just won’t end and drags out forever: “Leave the Pieces” (The Wreckers)

Favorite “I can’t believe it’s really over” song: “It must have been love, but it’s over now” (Roxette)

Favorite regretful love song: “You were always on my mind” (Willie Nelson)

Favorite love song, overall: Lovesong (The Cure)

82. Agategoddess - February 23, 2007

Sorry I’m a day late (story of my life, day late and a dollar short) with this but if you would add me to your blogroll I would greatly appreciate it!

Now, for my song picks: Love song (Hinder’s “Lips of an Angel”, words have special meaning to me) and The Hell with Love Song (U2’s “Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, because I haven’t!).

83. Not So Little Woman - February 23, 2007

I’ve got a whole iPod playlist of favorite love songs. And sorry if the ones I pick are in Spanish, but it´s my native language, so I can´t help it.
Favorite love song: “Pasito a Paso” (Step by step) from a Mexican man called Pablo Montero. It´s a song about conming “step by step” to the heart of the girl and how she has changed his life and he´ll never stop loving her. Love that you can substitute the “she” for “he” and it applies to a guy from a girl.
Favorite “to hell with love”: “Mejor sin ti” (”Better without you” ;) from the Spanish duo Ella Baila Sola. The girl in the song essentially says to the man that she’s alone, “better without you, better than before, with lots of everything and nothing of yours”. Hehehe. Good song.

84. mysterygirl! - February 23, 2007

Hi Charming,

Don’t feel compelled to link me, but you can if you like! :)
http://ooohbarracuda.blogspot.com

Songs for trying to let someone go: Elliott Smith, “Somebody That I Used to Know” is a good one, or Stars, “Your Ex-Lover is Dead,” or my girl Kelly Clarkson, “Since You Been Gone.” I also heard Kim Wilde, “You Keep Me Hanging On,” the other day and was like, whoa! I forgot about this 80s goodness!

Okay, I’m having too much fun…

85. Desiree - February 23, 2007

I’m getting addicted to your blog. It’s a fantastic distraction ;) Here is my site…

86. Tanglethis - February 23, 2007

Whoa… solicited shameless self-promotion!
So here’s me: tanglethis.wordpress.com
It’s funny, dating and drinking were the top two topics of my previous blog. This one’s more lit and cultural observations (ew, sounds pretentious). I’ll blow in now and then and speak from my past life.
This is a great in-love song: Esthero, Everyday is a Holiday.
This is a lovely lonesome song from a Philly girl: Daughter Darling, Sad and Lonely.

87. same - February 23, 2007

lol - great idea:

favorite love song - Can’t take my eyes off you - Manic Street Preachers
to hell with love I’m dying alone” song - “Here with me” - Dido

88. magickat - February 23, 2007

Best love song ever is “Come What May” from Moulin Rouge.

Best I’ll die alone so everyone else go screw yourself song is “On My Own” from Les Miserables.

89. thethinker - February 24, 2007

favorite love song - brighter than sunshine by aqualung

favorite to hell with you, i’m dying alone song - are you happy now by michelle branch

90. Loverville - February 24, 2007

I’m a neophyte — just started yesterday! — would love to be added.

Songs:
favorite sweet, upbeat, in-love song: Summer Girl, by Beck
favorite depressing breakup song: How Insensitive — it’s a Brazilian Bossa Nova song, can’t remember who was the original composer… Jobim?

91. VJ - February 25, 2007

Oh yeah, ‘Worse true to life break up song’. Even more valuable in that it’s usually sung by almost everyone now over the age of 70:

‘Why Don’t You Do Right’. There’s a Peggy Lee version & a Ella Fitzgerald one, a Sinead O’Connor one & even a Jessica Rabbit one.

You’ll know you have the genuine article if it mentions 1922. One of the greatest ‘Romance without finance is a nuisance’ songs ever. Which is it’s own song too BTW.

I think I take the prize for oldest songs ref’s too, and I never even got to Louie or Sousa either! Cheers & Good Luck! ‘VJ’

92. debsgr8r - February 25, 2007

Best I’ll die alone so everyone else go screw yourself song…”Insensitive” by Jann Arden. Sadly, that may also be my Best love song ever.
BTW…I adore your blogs.

93. Bucalu - February 25, 2007

Hello,

I e-amiled you/coommented about adding my blog and I included my two fav songs too but my blog name has changed from bucalu’s briliiant blog to Persona of a Princess - my two songs were Because you loved me by Celine Dion ( my wedding song) and Hate Me by Blue Octiober

Jenn

94. Single Girl - February 25, 2007

Hey Charming!

I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!!

I’d love for you to include me in your blogroll - singlelifeinthecity.blogspot.com

I think I have way too many songs - I swear I have a song for everything!

My favorite love song probably changes every day, really, but I think Sting’s “I was Brought to My Senses” is a lasting favorite…

As far as screw love, I’m dyin’ alone, hunny, that list is far too long! I think pretty much NIN’s entire album “Pretty Hate Machine” sums up my bitterness at any given point in time!!!

95. Pandax - February 26, 2007

The first song is easy - “Last Worthless Evening” by Don Henley. It’s my Prince Charming song, though the man’s a bit late. ;)

Second song… I’ll have to get back to you on that one. For now, how about “Perfect Girl” by Sarah Maclachlan or something more cheery like “Start All Over Again” by Diana Krall.

96. Val - February 27, 2007

So bummed that i didn’t get this in before the weekend! Hopefully I’m not too late. Let’s see, my blog:
http://thebridalwave.blogspot.com/

Favorite love song: “Lady”, by Kenny Rogers or “Woman” by John Lennon. Then there is always “Solid Like a Rock.” The first two are songs that i always imagined my husband would sing to me…..has not happened.

Favorite I’m dyin alone song???? Maybe “Nothing Compares 2 U” or, and I hate to admit this, but that Alannis Morrisette song? The real angry one. oooh, what about “what’s love got to do with it” by Ms. Turner?

97. charmingbutsingle - February 27, 2007

Val — No worries. I actually didn’t get to mess with the blogroll, because Sunday, my writing day, turned into spend-all-day-at-my-parents’-house-waiting-for-lunch-to-be-served. Maybe while I watch American Idol tonight …

I totally have your book sitting on my nightstand and I should be reading it right now, considering that I seriously am going to be the last unmarried person in the world after next year. Promise.

98. trybecca - February 27, 2007

I’d love to be on your blogroll!

Favorite love song: Ben Folds “The Luckiest”
To Hell With Love I’m Dying Alone: that Christmas song by Dan Fogelberg…it starts out “I met an old lover in the Grocery Store.” So sad.

99. Girlie Monkey - March 9, 2007

Just reqalized I wasn’t good enough for your blogroll… Pouting…

100. Girlie Monkey - March 9, 2007
