Ready to go* November 20, 2007

In what is either a sign of maturity or a sure sign that I am woefully unprepared, I managed to pack for four and a half days out of town without bringing any high heels. At all.

Jeans, black pants, a jogging suit, pajama pants, a few tees and sweaters. Tennis shoes, flip flops and my new favorite black flats – don’t tell anyone they’re by Jessica Simpson. Three pairs of shoes is light for me. I brought four for an overnight party hopping trip last month. (I am serious.)

I was very proud of my light packing. Sure, I dropped a graduated bead necklace, tights and black wrap dress in the suitcase at the last minute, for a family trip that will likely feature rounds of Scrabble, cooking and perhaps one casual dinner out. (And that’s pushing it.)

When I end up needing a black wrap dress, damnit, I will have it.

And by packing it, I guarantee that I won’t need it.

* Yes, NaBloPoMo is wearing me down. Sorry!

I only brought 4 pairs of shoes home for 3 days and I’m proud of myself! Granted 2 are Uggs, 1 nice pair of heels for dinner out, and silver flats for fun.

So excited to play Scrabble with my family :)

This is funny as I tend to over pack too. Not with shoes too much (for a guy 2 pr will do for most trips), but with almost everything else. Tape for gifts & notes. Note pads. Extra pens. Scissors, small sewing kits, shoe polish kits, you name it, I’m usually packing it. Enough reading material typically for a few days of entertainment. And if it’s a trip by car I usually also pack enough water & food for a few days too. Too many thoughts of the idiocy of dying in your car during winter when lost up north perhaps. You hear about 1-2 tragic cases every year about Holiday time. Not me! Cheers & Have a safe trip. Send some pics so you won’t be bothered by blogging! ‘VJ’

lol… There’s been a few times recently where I;ve packed light and been so proud of myself… till I got to my destination and it became clear that I left behind some very key items.

Which usually leads to a bit of shopping, which I guess isn’t all bad… ; )

Shoes.. I don’t get it. I have three pairs of shoes. My thick soled Skechers that are office casual, pinstripe canvas sneakers, and a nice pair of slip ons for suit wearing occassions. All of which can go with just about anything I wear, and I believe that’s a cardinal rule of fashion. Being able to use something in more than just one outfit. Does that mean I’m better at fashion than CBS? Probably not, since I only own one belt. At least it’s not a braided one.

In other news, I packed for a week in Mexico more like an overnight trip. I am inexperienced. Was better for aweek in LA, but not by much.

O.o

I have these great 3 and a half inch black heels with a faux wooden heel. The other night when I was wearing them, some fetus chirped to me, “OHMIGOD I have the same shoes!! Jessica Simpson, right?” I just hung my head in shame.
Happy Thanksgiving!

You’re still hanging in there! Also, I like those shoes.

Wailin must be male, right?

I usually overpack. A gal likes to have options.

8. Jen - November 21, 2007

I agree with Ima, Wailin MUST be a man! Only 3 pairs of shoes!? That has to be a sacrilege!
I always over pack too, I think it comes with being a girly-girl.

I tend to overpack so that I can have ‘choices’ and be ready for anything. 3 prs of shoes for 4+ days is really good.. pat yourself on the back!

Aye, I be the male of the species. But as I said, these three pairs of shoes can go with anything I have, no matter the combination. So why would I need more than three? Being laced throughout with testosterone I just don’t get the shoe fetish garnered by many women.

I’m a simple kind of creature by nature. Does it help that I make up for the lack of shoes with somewhat stylish clothing?

Just found your blog…love it.

True story…I recently went to Chicago to visit a friend for four days and my bag was overweight! I was so embarassed that I had to pay $50 extra bucks and I wasn’t even going to be there a week. aaand I still went shopping once I was there.

High heels are totally over-rated! :)

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you have a wonderful day!

That is a LOT of shoes! I tend to try to pare them down so I won’t have to carry them around…but I understand that some people are much more shoe-oriented than I am. :)
